Unemployed people from Rajasthan hold Dharna in front of the parliamentary headquarters of Uttar Pradesh, where a poll is being conducted, demanding a meeting with Parliamentary Secretary Priyanka Gandhi. The Rajasthan Berozgar Ekikrut Mahasangh (RBEM) rallies in Uttar Pradesh are aiming at pressuring the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress administration in Rajasthan to heed long-standing requests made by the state’s jobless.

The protesters’ demands include appointments to a number of government jobs for which recruitment exams have already been held, an increase in the number of vacancies for state government jobs, and the enactment of a non-bailable law against those who leak question papers in competitive examinations. The Congress has stated that 20 lakh employments will be created in Uttar Pradesh. We had backed the Congress before the 2018 Assembly elections. But commitments made to us haven’t been kept,” RBEM president Upen Yadav said on Monday.
At rallies attended by senior leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the RBEM previously said that it will fight the Congress in the Uttar Pradesh elections. “In Rajasthan, the Congress has a government. Despite this, they are not following through on their pledges to unemployed young, instead making lofty claims to the people of Uttar Pradesh. On November 23, MLA Danish Abrar, the newly designated advisor to CM Gehlot, reached out to the demonstrators and had negotiations with them.

The demonstrators departed for Uttar Pradesh on November 26 after failing to strike an agreement, and when they arrived in Lucknow, they accused UP Congress workers of mistreat with them. Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, state BJP president Satish Poonia, and deputy leader of the opposition Rajendra Rathore have all slammed the Gehlot regime in response to the unemployed youth rallies. Chief Minister Gehlot told reporters on Sunday that the opposition is ‘inciting’ the protests. The BJP, according to Gehlot, is demoralised as a result of its defeats in state elections and is now instigating similar protests.
