Uber cuts jobs of 600 employees in India due to coronavirus

After cab aggregator Ola announced job cuts of its 1,400 employees last week, now is the turn of its tough competitor Uber India.

Uber India announced that it has cut 600 jobs in India across customer and driver support, business development, legal, finance, policy and marketing domains.

The laid off employees would be provided with 10 to 12 weeks of salary, besides medical insurance coverage for the next six months and outplacement support.

The company said the tough decision had to be taken due the unpredictable nature of the coronavirus and its recovery status. In order to stay confident about the future, around 600 full time positions had to be laid off.

Uber has been cutting its staff in the US since a long time. Overall, the company has cut 6,700 jobs.
