Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Saryu Nahar National Project in Balarampur, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at about 1 p.m. According to a press release released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Friday, construction began in 1978, but the project was delayed due to lack of financial consistency, interagency coordination and sufficient monitoring and was not completed for more than 40 years.

“The Prime Minister’s vision for farmer welfare and development, as well as his commitment to prioritising long-stalled initiatives of national importance, gave the project much-needed emphasis,” the PMO claimed.
According to a press release, it was acquired in 2016 by Pradhan Mantri Krishna Shinchai Yojan to complete the project on time. “This work identified innovative solutions for the acquisition of new land to further build a canal and to fill a critical void in the project, as well as for resolving existing litigation related to past land purchases. The concentration on the project has increased and it was completed in four years.” the PMO stated.

The Saryu Nahar National Project, for example, cost more than Rs 9,800 crore to construct, with more over Rs 4,600 crore set aside in the previous four years. The project will provide reliable irrigation water to more than 14,000 hectares of land, benefiting more than 29 million farmers in more than 6,200 communities. It will help the districts of Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Shravasti, Sant Kabir Nagar Gonda, Basti, Bahraich, and Gorakhpur.
