Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and the leader of the Trinamool Congress, sent a severe message to party MP Mahua Moitra in public today, warning her not to cause splits within the party. The CM recognised that there are internal schisms in the party while speaking at an administrative meeting in Krishnagar ahead of the state’s municipal elections. Mamata Banerjee questioned Jayanta Saha, the party’s district president, during an administrative meeting of municipal officials and elected representatives, about internal party issues in Krishnagar, and criticised Mahua Moitra in the process. The Chief Minister made it clear that the party will choose the candidates for the next municipal elections in West Bengal, and everyone must agree.

This shows that Moitra and party officials are at odds over candidate selection. “Mahua, I am sending a clear message, who is for or against, I am not bothered about it,” the CM stated. This politics can work for a day, but it will not work long. (You will) prepare certain individuals and send them to YouTube, or digital (media), or newspapers. It’s also untrue to presume that the same individual will remain in the same job indefinitely. When the election comes around, the party will determine who will run and who will not. As a result, it is incorrect to maintain any differences of opinion. As I have stated, everyone will have to work together. I’m aware of the situation.”
Notably, Mahua Moitra was sat on the podium as Mamata Banerjee publicly humiliated her, and she could do nothing except nod in agreement, and she was obviously stunned by the party chief’s public humiliation. Mamata Banerjee’s remarks on Mohua Moitra come in the wake of allegations of internal party strife in Moitra’s Lok Sabha seat of Krishnagar. Other party heavyweights, including minister Ujjal Biswas, Nadia North district president Jayanta Saha, and party leader Naresh Saha, are said to be at odds with the MP. Mahua Moitra is said to operate alone and has no touch with the other party leaders in the district. Local leaders raised complaints against the MP when a top party official visited the district recently to speak with them.

According to them, the trouble began after Moitra was assigned responsibility for the whole Nadia district during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has instructed party leaders to work together ahead of the municipal elections. She also told the BDOs, district administration officials, and other authorities that they needed to keep in touch. Mahua Moitra was named as the party’s state in charge of Goa for the forthcoming elections last month.
