Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday to inaugrate of the completed part of the Kanpur Metro rail project. The Prime Minister is slated to examine the Metro Rail and ride it from the IIT Metro station to Geeta Nagar after the project’s inauguration at 1:30 p.m. The Kanpur Metro project will be inaugurated before of the impending Uttar Pradesh elections next year, and it will be one of the state’s important developmental projects for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Kanpur Metro is a 32-kilometer rail-based public transportation system in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, that is still under development.

The Kanpur Metro, which will be completed at a cost of over 11,000 crores, would be the country’s fastest-built Metro project. The project attempts to alleviate the city’s traffic difficulties and congestion. According to sources, the government has authorised two routes for the project, according to the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The first corridor, which will be opened on Tuesday, is 9 kilometres long and runs from IIT to Motijheel. The first phase of the project is planned to open in January 2022, according to reports.

The Kanpur Metro project was officially launched on November 15, 2019, by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with a trial run on the 9-kilometer segment between IIT and Motijheel Priority Corridor taking place on November 10. PM Modi opened the first phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Uttar Pradesh’s old holy city of Varanasi earlier this month. The first phase of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor cost 339 crore, and Modi lay the cornerstone for the project on March 8, 2019.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also speak at IIT-54th Kanpur’s convocation event. He would also award ‘unforgeable’ digital degrees to recent institution graduates. IIT-Kanpur will host the ceremony in a hybrid manner, with just a few persons permitted to attend in person and the remainder participating through virtual mode. The choice was made in accordance with the Covid-19 procedure. At the IIT-Kanpur campus, a bio-bubble has been developed to ensure a bio-secure environment for event goers. The ceremony will also be attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel, and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Modi had already sought proposals for his talk to the institute from the general population.
