Reopen medical colleges from December, says centre to states

The Union Health Ministry recently instructed the States and Union Territories to start taking essential steps to reopen the medical colleges on or before 1 December 2020 after following the coronavirus guidelines strictly.

As per a report, a senior health ministry official in a letter to all chief secretaries and administrators of all states and UTs had written, “The states/ UTs may take necessary steps to open the medical colleges on or before 1st December 2020. Needless to say, all the SOPs/ Guidelines with respect to social distancing and prevention of the spread of epidemic issues by central/state/ UT Governments will be formed scrupulously by all the colleges.”

This comes after the National Medical Commission recommended the health ministry to make non-Covid beds available in medical college hospitals and undertake UG medical training.
