Agra (UP): Two persons died and ten sustained serious injuries after a double-decker bus hit a trailer loaded with rods near Khandoli toll plaza on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district in the early hours of Monday, the police said.

The accident occurred as the bus driver failed to see the trailer parked on the expressway and crashed into it from the rear end. It may have happened because of poor visibility.

Those who died have been identified as drivers of a private double-decker owned by a travel company in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, sources further said, adding that the bus carrying 40 passengers was going from Delhi to Gwalior.

When the accident occurred, one of the drivers was operating the vehicle and the other was sleeping. The injured rushed to SN Medical College were critical, said station house officer of Khandoli Ramit Kumar. One of the drivers, who died in the accident, was identified as Narendra Sharma (40). It was he who was driving the bus when the accident occurred. The second (45), who was sleeping on the back seat of the bus, was identified as Rakesh Sharma (45). Two of the ten injured were discharged from the hospital and eight were under treatment, the officer said.
