Uttar PradeshSP legislator, brother booked for burning woman’s house

Date:

Kanpur: A legislator of the Samajwadi Party (SP) Irfan Solanki, his younger brother and some other people have been booked for rioting and arson after a woman with whom the law-maker had a land dispute accused them of setting her house afire, the police said on Wednesday. The police registered the FIR after the woman Nazir Fatima of Defence Colony in Jajmau had lodged a complaint accusing the SP leader and his aides of destroying her house on Monday night when her family members were not present at the residence.

Fatima has told reporters that she has a plot of 535 square yards in the Defence Colony where she has been staying since 1986, but the SP legislator and his brother have occupied around 200 square yards of the plot.

The legislator, however, denied the charges and released a video clip. He requested Uttar Pradesh assembly Speaker Satish Mahana to form a panel of legislators to inquire into the charges against him. Immediately after registering the FIR, the police raided the residences of the SP legislator and his brother, but they were absent, official sources said.

According to deputy commissioner of police Ravindra Kumar, local station house officer Abhishek Mishra has been suspended for not taking action against the SP lawmaker.

Meanwhile, the Kanpur police got information that legislator Solanki was in Lucknow and sent a team there to arrest him. In the video clip, Solanki alleged that heavy police force raided his house and misbehaved with his wife and minor daughter.
