Meerut (UP): A store manager has fallen into the police dragnet for stealing valuables and ornaments worth Rs 7 crore from a jewellery shop in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said on Sunday. The Kolkata police arrested him from his house in West Bengal. A police team from Meerut left for Kolkata to bring the manager identified as Chiranjeet Kumar to Meerut.
According to superintendent of police Piyush Kumar, Chiranjeet Kumar has been taken into custody, but his chum Denashish is still at large. Nevertheless, he, too, will soon be caught, Piyush Kumar said, adding that the stolen ornaments have yet to be recovered.
The showroom owner Shafiqul Rahman filed a complaint against two suspects, and, after that, the police registered a case against them.
According to the complaint, Chiranjit Kumar who has been working for the showroom for over one year has won the trust of its owner who used to hand over the keys to him. Rahman further said both Chiranjit and Debashish had gone to the showroom, opened the lock and made off with the valuables.
