Kanpur: After the elevation of the Anwarganj-Madhana section railway tracks, a new railway station near Kanpur University will be named after the late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, official sources said on Tuesday.
Members of Parliament from Kanpur and Akbarpur in Uttar Pradesh Satyadev Pachauri and Devendra Sinth Bhole put up the proposal for renaming the new railway station after the former prime minister at a meeting with railway officials. According to a press release, the tracks of the Anwarganj-Madhna section will be elevated. A sum of Rs 1, 200 crore is spent to raise the 16.5km track. The work has been going on for five months, and once the track is elevated the new station near Kanpur University will be christened after Vajpayee.
