Lucknow: The death of a 19-year-old girl who fell off the fourth floor of an apartment in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has kicked up several questions. They are whether she actually fell off the fourth floor of the apartment; whether it was the consequence of a love Jihad or it just happened by chance.

Although the main accused Sufiyan is at large, the family of the girl alleged that he had been mounting pressure on her to convert to Islam and tie the knot with him. The police included the provisions of the Religious Conversion Act at the time of registering a case against the alleged accused. Both the families knew each other very well and their children were also friendly with each other.

The family of the girl said to the police that they thought both the children who seemed to be calm and well-mannered would resolve the issue, but when the incident happened, we had hardly any inkling about it. Sufiyan even accompanied the girl’s family to the hospital where she had been admitted after her fatal fall.

One of the family members of the girl said after the doctors declared that the girl had been brought dead, Sufiyan made a flight. Immediately after the incident, the girl’s family lodged a complaint, alleging that the accused had harassed their daughter. The family of the accused lives on the third floor of the apartment.

The incident took place on Tuesday night when the girl, together with her mother, uncle and elder sister, had gone to Sufiyan’s flat to tell him to keep away from the girl. They also wanted to complain to the family members of Sufiyan about his conduct.

As the family members were talking to each other, an altercation took place between the girl and Sufiyan who began to push her from the fourth floor of the apartment, her mother said.

According to additional commissioner of police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, the girl’s body has been sent for post-mortem. He said that the girl had been in love with the youth but she was unhappy about some remarks that he had made against her family.

The police began to inquire case from various angles and included the Love Jihad issue after the allegations by the girl’s family, he said.
