Lucknow: The 16-year-old Dalit girl who was gangraped and set on fire in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district on September 7 died at a hospital in Lucknow on Monday, sources said. Two men gangraped the minor girl and set her ablaze in Madhav Tanda village in the district. She was rushed to a local hospital, but since her conditions began to deteriorate, the girl was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow where she had been undergoing treatment for the past 12 days.
The police said two persons had been arrested in connection with the incident. It came to light after a video clip, in which the girl was relating her tale of woes, went viral after three days of the incident. The persons Rajveer aged 19 and Tarachand aged 25 were arrested and sent to jail, said superintendent of police Dinesh Kumar Prabhu.
On the ground of a complaint lodged by the family members of the girl, a case was registered under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act. The incident occurred when the girl was going to give food to her grandmother who lives near her house in the village.
