Lucknow: The Lucknow police have finally laid their hands on 22-year-old Sufiyan, who was accused of pushing a 19-year-old girl Nidhi Gupta from the fourth floor of an apartment in the city three days ago, official sources said on Friday. The police team led by additional commissioner of police DK Singh collared the alleged murderer after a brief encounter in the Dubagga area of Lucknow. As the culprit was fleeing, the policemen shot him in the leg, sources further said.
Sufiyan who had an affair with the girl mounted pressure on her to convert to Islam and tie the knot with him. The police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for providing clue about Sufiyan’s whereabouts.
There were protests demanding the arrest of the accused and strict punishment for him. The members of the Bajrang Dal and those of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad staged a sit-in demanding Sufiyan’s immediate arrest and severe punishment for him. They said that it was complete case of Love Jihad and the culprit should not be spared.
