Ballia (UP): A group of people threw stones at a police team which was trying to remove an idol of Lord Hanuman at Bahadurpur Kari in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia on Monday. Five policemen sustained injuries in the incident, the police said, adding that seven people were arrested and a case was registered against 76.

The policemen were removing the idol installed on a piece of land belonging to the government. A police team together with revenue officials reached the village to remove the idol. No sooner had they tried to remove the idol saying that it was installed in a government land than the villagers got furious and began to hurl stones at the officials. The villagers also used sticks in the attack. Police station in charge Raj Kumar Singh is among those who were injured in the attack. They have been admitted to a government hospital in Ratsad. The officials said that the situation was under control and the idol was removed from the spot. A heavy police force has been deployed in the area.
