Lucknow: The residents of Jankipuram area in Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh, woke up to a shock on Wednesday when they came to know that a decomposed body of a new born baby had been found in the area.
The body was found under a garbage slit adjacent to a drain behind Sahara Club in the city. The incident came to light when the security guards of the Sahara Club had a foul smell billowing out of the slit.
As they removed the slit with a stick, they came across the body of the baby packed in a polythene bag.
The police said it was not learnt whether the baby had died after being dumped at the spot or was stillborn. The body was decomposed so much so that its gender could not be ascertained, but it was nearly five days old.
The post-mortem examination will reveal the gender and exact cause of the death of the baby, the police said.
This was the sixth body of a newborn found in the city this year. Two baby girls had been found abandoned but alive. Childline volunteers rescued them.
