Lucknow: The condition of the Dalit girl who violated and set ablaze deteriorated on Monday. She was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow, superintendent of police Dinesh Kumar Prabhu said. The rapists 19-year-old Rajveer and 25-year-old Tarun Kumar have been arrested and sent to jail, he said.

After gang-raping the 16-year-old girl, they set her afire by sprinkling diesel on her to wipe out the evidence. The incident took place in Madhotanda area in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh on September 7. When her family members came to know of the incident, they ran to the spot and admitted the girl to a local hospital with burns, the police said.

The incident came to light when a video clip of it went viral on social media on Saturday. In the video clip, the girl is seen narrating her tale of woes. According to sources, on the ground of the complaint lodged by the girl’s family members, a case was registered against the culprits under the various acts of the Indian Penal Code and under the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.

The police are quizzing the accused, Prabhu said. Sub-divisional magistrate of Lucknow (Sadar) Yogesh Kumar recorded her statement on Sunday.
