Lucknow: A 36-year-old woman has fallen into the trap of app loan fraudsters who asked her to pay Rs 5,000 for the loan that she had neither taken nor applied for, the police said on Monday. The incident came to light after the woman who works for a multinational firm lodged a complaint at the police station. The fraudsters also circulated her morphed obscene photographs on social media. According to the complaint, she inadvertently clicked a link that she got on WhatsApp. The link redirected her to a mobile app, Focus Loan, which claimed to offer instant loans.
The app got downloaded on her phone and mentioned her details. She never signed any agreement or applied for a loan of Rs 2,700 credited to her account, but her account showed a loan of Rs 5,000 on June 14.

Hardly had she sensed foul play when she transferred Rs 2,700 to the account from which the money was credited to her account, but that did not end the story. As her account still showed a balance of the fake loan amount of Rs 2,300, she paid back that money too on June 18, thinking that she would be relieved of the loan that she had neither taken nor applied for, the woman said. Instead of closing her fake loan account, the fraudsters began to send obscene messages to the woman and posted her morphed obscene photographs on social media.
Superintendent of police (cyber cell) Triveni Singh said that they had over dozen similar complaints.
