After almost six years of strained relations, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday touched the feet of his estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav on stage at an election meeting in Mainpuri.
The crowd shouted applause to greet the gesture.
Shivpal said, “ Aap ne kaha, ek ho jao to hum ek ho gaye. Ab bahu ko jeeta dena (You have told us to unite, so have we done; now you ensure the victory of my daughter-in-law.”
Akhilesh Yadav said that there had never been any difference between him and his uncle, and if there were any, they were settled. Prof Ram Gopal Yadav was sharing the stage with Akhilesh and Shivpal. The Yadavs are campaigning for Dimple Yadav to ensure her victory in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election.
