Pratapgarh (UP): A court, dealing with the cases under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, has issued death sentence to two accused for gang-raping a minor girl and for trying to kill her.
The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the two criminals who, in an attempt to kill the girl, damaged her legs, face and an eye.
The police said that three accused, including a minor, caught hold of the girl when she was going to a grocery shop on December 27 last year. The trio then took her to a railway track and gang-raped her there. Before throwing her on the railway track, they had damaged her left eye, legs and face. Their aim was to kill her. When some villagers saw the girl lying on the track in an unconscious state, they informed the police. The police arrested the two accused, and as the third one was a minor, they sent him to a juvenile court.
The brother of the girl, who complained to the police about the incident, took her to the SRN Hospital in Prayagraj. She came around after five days and gave a statement to the police and identified the criminals.
The police then collected evidence within two months, said inspector in charge of Nawabganj police station Sudhir Kumar and arrested the accused. The girl has recuperated.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to take prompt action against the culprits.
