Saharanpur (UP): The members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad handed over 18 people from West Bengal in Tilhar area of Saharanpur for reportedly offering Namaz on the roadside, official sources said on Wednesday. The incident that took place on Sunday came to light on Tuesday when its video clip went viral on social media.  

According to reports, they offered Namaz on their way to Ajmer in Rajasthan. Additional superintendent of police Sanjeev Vajpayee said on Wednesday that 18 people who were on their way to Ajmer were brought to the Tilhar police station on Sunday night for they were allegedly offering namaz on the roadside.

They were, however, released after they gave a written apology. A local VHP leader Rajesh Awasthi reported the matter to the police. He said that when he was going to some place, he saw some people offering Namaz on the roadside and that he told them offering Namaz on the roadside in Uttar Pradesh is prohibited. In the video clip, which went viral on social media, the VHP members can be seen asking the bus passengers who were going to Ajmer to hold their ears and apologise for offering Namaz on the roadside. After that, the bus left for Ajmer.
