Uttar PradeshMP-MLA court finds Azam Khan not guilty in hate speech case

Date:

Lucknow: There was a piece of good news for Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Wednesday.

An MP-MLA court in Uttar Pradesh acquitted Khan of all the charges in connection with a hate speech case on Wednesday.

A magistrate court in Rampur accused Samajwadi Party (leader) Azam Khan of making hate speech seven months ago. Since Khan was sentenced to three years’ jail term, he lost his membership of the House.

After the verdict of the MP-MLA court, lawyer of Khan, Vinod Sharma said that his client had been implicated in a false case.

Meanwhile, a by-election was held in Rampur and the BJP candidate won from there. Khan was an MLA from the Rampur constituency.

In 2019, Khan contested Lok Sabha from Rampur on SP ticket. During the electioneering, he allegedly gave some provocative speeches against Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and district magistrate of Rampur Anujendra Singh.

Significantly, a defamation case was filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for making comments on Modi title.

A court of magistrate in Gujarat found Rahul guilty of defamation on March 23 this year. The very next Rahul’s Lok Sabha membership was cancelled.
