Woman SI among two cops held for extortions from businessmen in UP

Kanpur: Three cops including a woman sub-inspector were arrested on Friday night for allegedly extorting money from two businessmen, sources said on Saturday. The cops told the two businessmen that they would implicate them (businessmen) in a false rape case if they did not give Rs 15 lakh and snatched jewellery, mobile phone and Rs 20,000 from them.

The policemen involved in the case are sub-inspector Bhuvneshwari Devi, home guard Sanjeev and their associate Mata Prasad Gupta. According to additional commissioner of police (law and order) Anand Prakash Tiwari, two businessmen, Amit Singh and Upendra Singh, alleged that the three policemen had snatched cash and valuables from them and that they threatened to implicate them in a false rape case. He said that a probe into the allegation was ordered.

When the police began a probe into the case, they came to know that Bhuvneshwari Devi with the help of five others, including a woman who runs a brothel den and two sex workers, planned to set a trap for the businessmen, Tiwari said. The businessmen were honey-trapped on Thursday night when the sub-inspector along with the home guard raided a house where the businessmen were with the sex workers.

During the raid the SI snatched the jewellery and cash from the traders who were also arrested under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
