SIT set up to investigate Delhi violence, 38 deaths so far

New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday in the Delhi violence case. With this, all the registered FIRs in the case have been handed over to the SIT. The two SIT teams formed for the investigation will be headed by DCP Joy Tirkey and Rajesh Dev.

 According to reports, the investigation team formed has started investigating cases related to the North East Delhi violence. At the same time, monitoring of both these investigation teams has been entrusted to Additional CP BK Singh. In this case, 48 FIRs have been registered by the police so far while 106 people have been arrested.

Around 38 people have died and more than 200 people have been injured in the violence between two groups in Delhi’s North-East. In the riots, the rampaging mob set houses, shops, vehicles, petrol pumps on fire. The violence mainly engulfed Delhi’s Zafarabad, Maujpur, Babarpur, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Chand Bagh and Shiv Vihar.

At the same time, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has appointed Special Commissioner of Police Sundari Nanda to meet the families of Delhi violence victims and ensure all possible assistance to them. Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Baijal held a meeting on the law and order situation in northeast Delhi. He directed the police to adequately deploy forces, patrol, deal with the situation rapidly in any situation and to register FIR and promptly investigate.
