Both the seats won by the SP in 2019 fell vacant after Akhilesh Yadav quit Azamgarh Parliamentary seat and Azam Khan resigned from Rampur Lok Sabha seat following their win in the assembly elections.

Reacting to the party’s defeat, former Vidhan Parishad chairman Sukhram Singh Yadav has said that Akhilesh Yadav should think about the reasons for the loss in Azamgarh and Rampur and that he should also maintain a balance between the family and the party.

He agreed with Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar’s statement that Akhilesh became the chief minister because of his father Mulayam Singh Yadav’s grace. Sukhram Yadav further said that as long as Akhilesh keeps away from maintaining a balance between the family and the party, he will taste such defeats as happened in the two Lok Sabha by-polls.
