Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was in Varanasi on Thursday to inaugurate several development projects said that there is a need to connect education with modern ideas of the 21st century. He made the statement at the inaugural session of the three-day Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam. Modi said that the basic objective of the National Education Policy (NEP) is to bring education out of the narrow thought process and integrate it with the thoughts and ideas of the future. He also inaugurated development projects worth crores of rupees in his constituency.

Instead of producing only degree holders, the nation should also develop human resources in a way that the country can face the future challenges, he said. “I am sure that soon India will emerge as a global hub for education. To this end, we are creating world class institutes that will help in creating opportunities for the youth. We are making sure that NEP is not just another document in the files, but a roadmap that guides our education system,” he said, adding that “through the NEP, we aim to create employers.” Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Prime Minister said,”I am the MP of Varanasi and in that sense, I am your host and you are my guests. I am sure that you will not be having any inconvenience during your stay.” The Prime Minister also inaugurated an Akshaya Patra midday meal kitchen that is designed to provide healthy fare to one lakh children at one go.
