Missing rape victim’s body found in UP village canal

Barabanki: A 17-year-old girl who went missing after being raped was found dead in a canal in Barabank district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said on Monday.  The body was seen floating in the Indira Canal near Kazipur Behta village adjacent to the Sitapur district on Saturday. According to additional superintendent of police Punendra Singh, she died after drowning in the canal.

During the investigation, it came to light that the girl had left her house in Sandana area on August 18 for a court hearing, but did not return. Her family members launched a search for the girl but when they did not find her, they launched a complaint at the police station at the Sadana police station. The Sitapur police filed a case of abduction when the father of the victim said that the rape accused may have abducted and killed her. Nevertheless, there was no injury mark on her body.
