Bulandshahr: A consumer court has asked a tailor in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district to pay more than Rs 12,000 as damages to a customer for stitching ill-fitting kurta-pyjama and for additional mental harassment caused to the client, sources said on Friday.
The tailor Iftikhar Ansari, owner of Silco Tailors, to refund the stitching charges of Rs 720. Besides, Ansari has been asked to pay Rs 1,500 as the cost of cloth, Rs 5,000 as litigation cost and Rs 5,000 for harassment caused to the client. The litigation continued for more than four years. According to reports, 58-year-old MP Singh, at present posted as district information officer at the collectorate in Bulandshahar, stitching of a kurta-pyjama does not cost one more than Rs 200 from a common shop. But as he had to pay Rs 750, he expected a fine-fitting dress, Singh said.
According to assistant information officer Shekhar Verma at the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, several notices had been sent to the tailor, but since he never turned up, the forum took an ex- parte decision.

Eventually, the forum’s three-member team headed by its head, Chandrapal Singh, gave an ex-parte decision.”
