Video job interviews have become a popular format of hiring the right candidates with the employers as it also helps to save time and cost in meeting the whole lot of job candidates.
Here are some tips that you can utilize to avoid erring in the video job interview:
1) Check your internet connection and camera: Sometimes, you start the video interview and connection goes weak. It looks really bad on your part to be not prepared for the interview. So, a little planning can go a long way in improving your performance at the video interview.
2) Take care of your camera placement and make a timely login to the video interview website: Time management is the key. Just like interviewers feel a bit disappointed if you reach the interview venue late due to traffic or travel issues, similarly it is vital that you are on time for the online video interview as well for a smooth conversation.
3) Select a noise-free place with proper lights: An aunty talking to her child in a loud tone at the mall or a businessman making calls to his clients at a cyber cafe will disturb you and shift your focus on unwanted things. Thus, ensure that you are in a proper-lighted room in your home which will be silent for you to make a video call with your prospective employer.
4) Make sure your clothes are formal, fitting and ironed: Wearing a t-shirt and shorts or informal attire at the video interview makes you look unprofessional. Thus, consider the video interview like a face-to-face interview and dress really well to give your best.
5) Practice the most commonly asked interview questions: Use the search engine and get some basic interview questions that are asked by most of the employers for the first round of interview. Be honest but not naive! Know what to share and know what not to. Be very clear with your strengths and weaknesses. Ensure you are confident with whatever you speak to your employer.
6) Be conscious of your body language, eye contact and facial expressions: If you don’t know anything, do not look elsewhere. Just say it with an honest eye-contact. It is not mandatory to know each and everything. Be polite and transparent in your communication.
7) Be mindful about your body posture while answering the interview questions: Effective communication is the key for successful relations. Even if you are getting a gut feeling that what the employer is expecting from you to perform at the future job is not something you are capable of, it is okay. Do not spoil relations or lose your cool if a prospective employer asks you questions that makes you uncomfortable. He is doing his job and you should do yours. Answer whatever you can and skip if you don’t feel like answering certain questions. But say it in a calm tone.
8) Prepare for the interview with a friend: Friends are anyways our biggest support system. So why not spend some productive time with your time and encourage him to help you out on working on the flaws or mistakes to avoid doing at the live video interview.
All the best!
