New Delhi: A Right to Information (RTI) report has found that Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar does not have citizenship documents. According to the report, many cabinet ministers of Haryana government and Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya also do not have citizenship documents. This RTI Panipat resident P.P. Kapoor had filed.
In the RTI filed by Kapoor, Haryana Public Information Officer Poonam Rathi said that she did not have information in this regard. The RTI states that their citizenship documents may be with the Election Commission. There is no information in this regard in his record. It is said in the reply that you are informed that there is no such record available with the Chief Minister Secretariat Branch. The information you ask for may be available with the Election Commission. Therefore, you should correspond with the Election Commission for related information.
Significantly, people have been on the streets for the last few months regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Citizen Register (NRC). Violence was also seen in east north Delhi due to this. Many leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party have spoken of implementing NRC across the country. One such statement was also given by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Khattar had promised during the assembly elections that he would implement NRC in the state to expel illegal migrants from Haryana.
However, the Modi government said on the ongoing protests that no proposal has come in the context of NRC yet, but the opposition has been a constant attacker, citing Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in Parliament. At the same time, opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act is also an attack on the Modi government, while there are protests against it in many states.
