Former IAS Shah Faisal detained under Public Safety Act

Srinagar: The Public Safety Act has also been imposed on Shah Faisal, a 2011 batch topper of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and founder of the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement. The charges under which the PSA has been imposed on Shah Faisal have not been confirmed yet. Faisal was detained at Delhi Airport in August last year.

He was going from Delhi to Istanbul. After which he was brought to Srinagar from Delhi and was placed under house arrest. After abolishing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Faisal was detained for one of his tweets. He tweeted, ‘Kashmir needs a long, sustained and non-violent political movement to regain political rights.’

On August 5 last year, Article 370 was abolished from Jammu and Kashmir. After this, many veteran leaders of the valley were put under house arrest. Shah Faisal wrote in a Facebook post criticizing the central government, ‘Due to the police action in the valley, about 80 lakh people have been forced to remain like prisoners.
