Saharanpur (UP): The state government’s plan to shower flower petals from helicopters on Kanwar Yatris had to be cancelled because of inclement weather, official sources said on Sunday. Kanwar pilgrims organise processions in the month of Shrawan or Sawan and walk up to various Shiva temples to offer holy water on Shiva Linga.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials to arrange for showering flower petals on Kanwar pilgrims who fetch water from the Ganga in Rishikesh and offer it to Lord Shiva in different temples. They walk hundreds of kilometres seeking the blessings of the lord for the welfare of all beings.

Sources in the district administration said that the helicopters which were to come from Gurugram to shower flower petals on the Kanwar pilgrims in Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar could not arrive. It happened because of the inclement weather. The district administration was all set to go ahead with the programme, but sudden change in weather forced the officials to abandon the event.
