Riyadh: International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christalina Georgiwa said on Sunday that the pace of recovery in the global economy could be at risk due to corona virus infection.

He said on the second day of the meeting of Finance Ministers and Governors of Central Banks of G-20 countries that the global economy grew at a rate of 2.9 percent last year. The rate was expected to improve to 3.3 percent this year.

He said the projected improvement in global economic growth rate is now more fragile. Georgiva said, ‘covid-19 (corona virus), which is a global emergency for health and medicine, has disrupted economic activity in China and may pose a risk in the path of improving global economic growth. is.’

He said, “I have told the G-20 that even if the corona virus infection is controlled rapidly, it will still have an impact on the economic growth rate of China and the rest of the world.” He said that the global economic growth rate could decline by 0.1 percent due to infection with this virus. Due to this, China’s economic growth rate may be reduced to 5.6 percent this year.
