CBI raids the residence of former governor of J&K Satya Pal Malik In a hydel project case, the CBI raids the residence of former governor of J&K Satya Pal Malik. In the course of its investigation into suspected corruption in the awarding of a contract for a hydroelectric project in Union territory, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is searching more than thirty locations, including those connected to former governor of Jammu and Kashmir Satya Pal Malik. According to officials, the case is about alleged corruption in the Rs 2,200crore civil works awarding process for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP).

In the course of the ongoing investigation, the federal agency searched about eight places in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir last month. Digital gadgets, PCs, property records, incriminating documents, and more than Rs 21 lakh in cash had been retrieved by the CBI.

According to a CBI spokesman, the case was opened in response to a referral from the J&K government against the private company CVPPPL’s then-chairman, MD, directors, and unidentified other parties. It was alleged that e-tendering guidelines were not followed in the awarding of civil works related to the Kiru hydroelectric project.

Although it was decided at the 47th board meeting of CVPPPL [Chenab Valley Power Projects (P) Ltd] to re-tender through e-tendering with reverse auction following the cancellation of the ongoing tendering process, the decision was not carried out (according to the 48th board meeting decision), and Patel Engineering Ltd was ultimately awarded the tender, according to the FIR.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, gave a sneak peek at his recent meeting with Satya Pal Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday. The two leaders can be seen discussing a number of topics in the video he posted on X, including the Pulwama attack and the current state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rahul Gandhi questioned whether the conversation between the two would lead to a greater involvement of the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI while captioning the video on X. Rahul Gandhi starts his conversation with Malik by inquiring about his political career. Malik replies that he has been involved in politics since 1973, when he was still a student and took charge of a farmers’ party for the first time. When asked about his thoughts on the Union Territory, Malik stated that an army or force could not govern Jammu and Kashmir.

The people of Jammu and Kashmir should be instantly restored to their statehood. In response to the question of what is urgently needed, Malik stated that the repeal of Article 370 has not hurt them as much as stripping the state of its independence and turning it into a Union Territory.
