Meerut (Uttar Pradesh): An army officer has allegedly cut one of the fingers of his wife following a tiff with her over dowry, the police said on Friday. The incident recently occurred in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. The woman in her 30s rushed to the police station with her injured finger and accused her husband of harassing her demanding more dowries just after their marriage in 2014. The couple has a five-year-old son.

The accused, a Major in the army, is working for the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers at 510 Army Base in Meerut. Additional superintendent of police Chandrakant Meena said that orders had been issued to book the accused for harassing his wife for more dowries as well as for committing domestic violence.
