Army jawan killed in celebratory firing at Sonbhadra district

Sonbhadra: Celebratory firing has claimed many lives, but the government has done a precious little to end it. A 35-year-old Army jawan died in a celebratory firing during a wedding in the Brahmnagar area of Sonbhadra district, sources said on Wednesday.

The celebrating firings generally take place in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and in other north Indian states. Two such incidents recently took place in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh where two persons lost their lives in celebratory firing. The government, however, did not did not take any decision to stop such incidents.

The administration only orders inquiry into these incidents after they take place and forget them after identifying the culprit.
About the incident in Sonbhadra district, additional superintendent of police Vinod Kumar said, “The jawan was on leave and got fatally injured in the firing at the function. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.”

At present, Yadav was posted in Jammu and returned to his village on leave a couple of days ago, Kumar said. The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigations are underway to identify the accused.
