Art and writing has been always a keen interest for actor and healer Anushree Painuly who recently launched her debut book titled ‘Sunrise Beyond The Dead End’. The book highlights the major mental health issues of today’s changing times – depression and loneliness. We at BuzinessBytes got a chance to indulge in a candid tête-à-tête with Anushree. And here’s what she has to say about her love for writing and writing in general.
Being a writer and actor, if you were asked to choose any one profession, what would it be? And why?
It’s like being given a choice between breath and heartbeat. Studies prove that our brain is extremely capable of doing several things hence I see no point why we should limit ourselves. It’s one life and I believe we should do everything we love.
What is your first favourite book? Why?
My first favourite book is the classic novel, ‘The Fountainhead’ by Ayn Rand. l love it for its strong characterization and story. It impeccably narrates the struggles, downfall and achievements of a creative free thinker. The novel is a beautiful portrayal of how the world dislikes and yet secretly admires the unbending minds.
How did publishing your first book change you as a writer?
Unlike short stories and articles, writing a book requires a lot of patience and self-discipline. Post this book I have become far more organised and disciplined in my writing.
It is believed that writers are emotionally attached with their work. Does it happen to you? If yes, as a writer, how do you deal with success and criticism?
Just like a sculptor, a musician or a painter, a writer too is very much attached to their work and I am no exception. As for success and criticism they are both part and parcel of any field. Not everyone is alike, so a category of people might just love your work while another category might not. Hence it becomes very important to not let either of them affect you too much.
There are many talented people who have a lot of artistic ideas but don’t get into professional writing. According to you, what is it that stops writers from publishing their work?
Like I already mentioned, writing a book requires a lot of self-discipline and patience. You have to devote hours writing the manuscript and it doesn’t end there. Thereafter you have to edit it several times. I think this is the major reason that most people, though they have excellent ideas are not able to give it form of a book.
What is your message for aspiring writers?
Be focused, be real and be determined. Just remember that holding the first copy of your book will be worth all your hardwork.
