Thailand has announced that it will be going through another set of lockdowns by imposing more curbs and restrictions. The country made an announcement of a seven-hour night curfew in Bangkok. Nine more provinces are also going under a lockdown with restrictions imposed in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Right now, Thailand is in the middle of a third wave of coronavirus disease and has recorded over 9,000 new infections on a daily basis. After a lot of discussion with the higher officials, a government official made an announcement about the new restrictions. From Monday, a curfew from 9 pm to 4 am will be introduced and people would be expected to work from home. The government official also apologized to people for the difficulties that they have to face due to the restrictions but it is an attempt to reduce the disease to spread and manage the disease control effectively.
Thai officials have also stated that unnecessary travel will be restricted. The government of Thailand has been facing backlash for being slow on vaccine roll-outs and doing less capacity of tests to determine coronavirus infections. Also, the country’s economy is low and suffering to a great extent and it is one of the terrible since the 1997 Asian economic crisis.
The latest restrictions on travel have been reintroduced at a time when the country was actually planning to restart for travel and tourism, which earns at least 20% of the national income in Thailand. One will get to know the depth of the destruction that the pandemic has caused to the country. Phuket last week was reopened for vaccinated travelers as per reports.
Many countries around the world, including India, are yet to cope up with the pandemic crisis that has affected the economy, health, tourism, and many other aspects.
