If you are planning to travel from Delhi to Meerut in the coming years, there is surprising news for you. The first phase of Rapid Rail from Delhi to Meerut is going to be set up soon. It will be a 17 km high-speed track that will run from Sahibabad to Duhai in Uttar Pradesh. This interesting train will run at a speed of 180 kmph and will have a business or premium coach on a regional corridor. It is a unique, first-of-its-kind initiative in the nation.

The first railway coach has reached Duhai and the NCRTC is set to run this train. Passengers will be able to run through this new train from 2023. The 1 km long trial track has been almost laid and also the 12 running tracks at the Duhai depot are finished. The train has been manufactured in Savli of Gujarat. A multinational company Alstom has made the train.
As per the Indian Railways, the train can travel at a time span of 55 minutes from Delhi to Meerut. This train will cover a distance of 100 km in an hour’s time in its first phase. Also, the journey from Delhi to Meerut i.e. 82 km via Ghaziabad will be finished in 55 minutes. In the span of 55 minutes of the journey, 25 stations are being prepared to stop between Delhi to Meerut. At every station, the train will stop for 30 seconds and the new trains will be available in a time span of 5 to 10 minutes.

As per media reports, there are also separate train coaches arranged for women, disabled people, and patients in the train coach. Important safety features of the new train include:

Presently, it takes almost 2 to 3 hours to travel from Delhi to Meerut via train. The project of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System) corridor was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 March. It is one of the rapid rail corridors that has been planned under Phase I of RRTS. As per reports, the project cost is said to be around Rs. 30,274 crore.
As per Wikipedia, all the RRTS stations will have platform screen doors for improved safety of passengers. It is also noted that the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is the first RRTS corridor to be launched in the nation. The corridor will start from Sarai Kale Khan station in Delhi. The corridor will go through places of Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, closing at Modipuram in Meerut.
