Climbing Mount Everest is usually considered a great achievement as one leaves away all his inhibitions and restrictions to achieve such a major feat in his life. Well, everyone wants to reach the top, and aiming for standing on the top of Mount Everest is like achieving the highest goal in one’s life. Today we bring to you a story of a blind man from China who didn’t let his disability come in the way of fulfilling his this dream of climbing Mount Everest.
46 years old Chinese man Zhang Hong has made a record of becoming the first blind man in Asia to conquer the tallest peak of the world Mount Everest. Zhang made this amazing climb from the Nepal side of Everest and he has set an example to everyone that if one sets a goal in his life and works towards it with a strong mindset then he can achieve the same in his life.
The beautiful climb was achieved on 24 May 2021 by Zhang along with the company of three altitude guides. Zhang Hong returned back to his base camp on 27 May after walking towards the world’s popular climb. For the unaware, Hong is not the only blind man who has overcome his disability to conquer his dreams. In fact, the first blind man to achieve this feat was an American mountaineer Erik Weihenmayer who had climbed Mount Everest in 2001.
Hong considered Erik as his inspiring guide and started training with a mountain guide named Qiang Zi. Though the coronavirus pandemic had shut the doors for mountain climbers last year, this year since April 2021 the mountain climbing activity was set to open for foreigners.
