TravelPlan to travel full-time? Know here some important things

Date:

A friend of mine decided to quit her full-time job in the shipping industry to do a certificate program in travel from a distance learning university. I was confused by her decision but all she said is she no longer wants to be tied to four walls of a corporate office. Her aim is to find more purpose and meaning in life and that can be achieved only if she makes a career in the tourism sector. In short, she was taking a career break by switching to a course that is not related to her existing profession. Indeed her journey is an inspiring one. Although she couldn’t make it big in her profession, she decided to break the stereotypes and come out in the open with her vulnerabilities of what she really wanted from her life.

If you are also planning to do something adventurous in your life like my crazy friend, here are some key things that you need to know about full-time travel as a career.

1) Know how much can you afford:

It is obvious that you will have to sponsor your own trips in the initial stage of your career unless you are the lucky one who has been appointed by a travel company to do their work. You need to come up with a travel budget that will suit your goals and interest as well. If you plan to explore some nearby places, you can opt for the local transport like public buses or rickshaws rather than going in a cab or taxi. The less you spend on your transport, the more areas you can cover and learn more about the places in your own way. The important questions you need to ask before you set your budget are how many places you want to travel to, the number of days you want to spend on your travel, and also how do you plan to accommodate yourself while you travel.

2) Know how to use your money:

It would obviously be your hard-earned money in the initial stages of your career as a traveler. You need to save as much as you can while you decide to buy your essentials and also spend on carrying your baggage. Please don’t take extra luggage with you as it would be heavier to carry and also find a place where you can store them. You need to assess each expense properly so that your savings account doesn’t take a big-time hit.

3) Record your travel experiences properly:

You may opt to take a camera, video camera, book and pens, mobiles, and even your laptop to record everything about your travel journey. If you find some interesting people on the way, you can even take their bytes to write in the form of a book or a blog that you can share as and when you return from your trip. Make sure you have a good number of social media channels wherein you can post live updates of your trip. You can even talk to the lodge officials and restaurants about the coverage that you can offer to them on your social channels if they offer you discounted or free rates for living and food.

For the start, things may not be easier as they may seem. But you can eventually set up your own travel agency if you are completely aware of the hooks and nooks of the places you have visited. You can even work as a travel photographer or travel agent or tour guide for a company and earn a living.
