Dal Lake freezes as a severe cold wave grips the Jammu and Kashmir valley.

Recently, Jammu and Kashmir announced that it would be hosting winter games to attract more tourists to the region. Also, The Union Territory is planning other activities to boost tourism. Apart from all these things, the good news for tourists is that the entire Dal Lake has frozen due to the cold wave in Srinagar.

The harshest winter period—Chillai Kalan—begins in the Kashmir valley, as the region continues to experience minus degree temperatures, and as the 40-day event of severe winters commence.

Reportedly, Srinagar started experiencing these freezing temperatures from November itself, whereas the region clocked temperatures below -6°C consistently between December 17 and December 20.

The cold condition not only affects the Dal Lake but also freezing of water supply lines in some areas of the valley. As per reports, due to an excruciating cold wave, Dal Lake froze on December 20.
