Tamil Nadu is the most beautiful state as it has a lot of temple towns and heritage sites that are worth seeing once in our lifetime. The tourism of Tamil Nadu is hugely dependent on the UNESCO World Heritage sites which are located there. The state has an enormous number of buildings, monuments, and religious locations that attract a large number of people to visit the state from all over the world.

1) Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram is one of the oldest stone temples that have been located in India and it has been constructed during the times of the Pallavas. The temple got its name as Shore Temple because it faces near the shore of the Bay of Bengal. It has been created with granite blocks that relate to the 8th century.

2) Seven Pagodas of Mahabalipuram is a group of monuments that are located in Mahabalipuram. You will be really surprised to know that the monuments were made during the 7th century under the leadership of Narasimhavarman II.

3) Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple has been announced as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. Other temples that also got this honor are Brihadeeswarar and Airavatesvara temples and thus, these three temples are together known as the Great Living Chola Temples. Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was built during the Chola Kingdom.

4) Brihadishvara temple, also recognized as Rajarajeswaram is again one of the ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Brihadishvara temple is considered to be one of the huge temples in southern India thus attracting many international and national visitors. The temple was constructed by Tamil prince Raja Raja Chola I.

5) In Kumbakonam, you will be amazed to find out Airavatesvara Temple, which is a gorgeous example of a Dravidian structure developed by Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century. The temple also comes under the popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Thanjavur district.
