American multinational automotive and clean energy company Tesla has launched the humanoid robot Optimus. Interestingly, the new AI robot can now do yoga, gesture “namaste” and even sort blocks by color on its own and smoothly at a human-like speed. The company shared a video on X, formerly Twitter, and the post can be checked here.
The post read, “Optimus can now sort objects autonomously. Its neural network is trained fully end-to-end: video in, controls out. Come join to help develop Optimus (& improve its yoga routine).”
The video clip is just a minute long and has already gained more than 11 million views. The video shows that Optimus robot can sort objects and even correct its errors. Optimus also revealed how it can adjust to changes and complete tasks even when amid human intervention.
Anurag Kashyap and Vivek Agnihotri share critical remarks on Twitter
The robot is then shown doing yoga poses such as flexibility and balance. Optimus also showed how it can extend its limbs and stand on one leg. Tesla stated that Optimus is able to self-calibrate its arms and legs and can situate its limbs in space using vision and joint position encoders.
Reacting to the video, Tesla owner Elon Musk said only one word: “Progress”.
The company has been working on developing a general-purpose, bi-pedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of doing unsafe, repetitive, or boring tasks.
Internet users were impressed with the new abilities of Tessla’s robot. One user said, ”Optimus is so smooth. I’m impressed.” Another said, ”OMG! Amazing progress from the @Tesla team. Well done. I can’t wait to see the next leap in capabilities.” A third added, ”That is absolutely mind-blowing progress!!! As an engineer, I am in total awe of all the tiny details that had to be done just right to achieve that rather simple-looking fluid motion… and if that was not difficult enough, it already has the cognitive ability to deal with changing reality! And all this since the last demo where Optimus was only just about walking clumsily! I am speechless! Tesla AI team is the A team. And the pace of progress seems to be on an exponential curve. Well done Tesla teams!! Congratulations.”
There is no official information on when TeslaBot will be ready for public use and further production. Tesla wrote about Optimus on his official page, ”Create a general purpose, bi-pedal, autonomous humanoid robot capable of performing unsafe, repetitive, or boring tasks. Achieving that end goal requires building the software stacks that enable balance, navigation, perception, and interaction with the physical world. We’re hiring deep learning, computer vision, motion planning, controls, mechanical, and general software engineers to solve some of our hardest engineering challenges”.
So, when Optimus is able to do such progressive actions, what will other competitor companies come up with? Artificial Intelligence is no wonder an amazing thing and trending in the world right now. Several technology companies are working towards the AI space so that they can come up with advanced and latest products and services. So, what is the next thing you want a robot to do?
