To make smart technology accessible to the masses, the authorities of mobile phone manufacturing companies had set up a meeting with the Indian government officials and in a long discussion reaffirmed that they would slowly stop developing 4G phones and will focus on 5G technology and make them available at a priced Rs 10,000 and above.
In a meeting held between the Senior management of the Department of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology with telecom operators and smartphones, makers have asked them to invest their energies in making 5 G-enabled services with 5G devices in the coming quarter.
Currently the country has close to 750 million people using smartphones out of which only 100 million users have devices supporting 5G technology, and a large number (more than 350 million ) consumers use old handphones that do not support beyond 3g and 4g. The senior officials also mentioned that the ministry has been informed about the current scenario and assured that our company will gradually discontinue 3G-4G devices and focus on phones that can offer 5G at an affordable price.
Meanwhile, the smartphone companies have already started testing some of the devices with the help of telecom operators providing 5G technology in some regions of India. Recently Bharti Airtel has announced the 5G launch and has started rolling out 5G in eight cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur and Varanasi while Jio is doing beta testing in top 4-5 cities.
The primary reason of the meeting was to discuss the early adoption of 5G technology in India by enabling affordable  handsets to public to be able to experience good internet speed and smart calling.
