New Delhi: International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bak said on Wednesday that postponing the Tokyo Olympic Games to 2021 would cause the IOC to lose millions of dollars.
“We already know that we have to lose crores of US dollars due to the postponement of the Games,” said the former German Olympian Bak in a letter to the Olympic campaign.
Bak said that the IOC would fulfill its financial responsibility towards Tokyo but it could possibly be cut. He said, “We will also have to consider and review all the services we provide to the suspended sports. The IOC will continue to be responsible for part of the work and expenses of the running of these postponed games. “
The IOC has about US $ 1 billion in reserves. The Tokyo Olympics was scheduled to be held from July 24 this year, but the IOC adjudged the Games to be postponed from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
Tokyo Games Organizing Committee chief Yoshiro Mori has stated that the Games will not be postponed and canceled if the corona virus epidemic is not controlled within one year.
