Melbourne: World number one Novak Djokovic has captured his ninth title at the Australian Open by defeating Russia’s Daniel Medvedev in straight sets. With this, he has further increased his record win at Melbourne Park on Sunday.
Djokovic defeated the fourth seeded opponent 7-5 6-2 6-2. He also broke the Russian player’s winning of 20 matches in front of about seven and a half thousand fans at Road Laver Arena.
This is Serbia player Djokavic’s third consecutive Australian Open title and 18th Grand Slam. He has stepped up Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have 20 grand slams. With this defeat Medvedev’s dream of winning the Grand Slam for the first time was shattered.
In the singles tournament competition, hardly anyone has shown as much dominating as Djokovic did in this match. With the 9th title, Djokovic has broken Federer’s record of winning Wimbledon eight times but is still far behind Nadal. Nadal has won 13 French Open titles over Ronald Garros.
