The initiative will pave the way for quality education of Astam and her siblings
Ranchi, October 27, 2022: MG Ranchi has recognised Astam Oraon, the captain of India’s Under-17 Women football team and extended support to her family in an event at the MG dealership. The association aims to secure her and her siblings’ education and provide further support with employment after their education. The event was presided over by Mr. Pulak Singhania, Dealer Principal of MG Ranchi.
Astam Oraon, the Captain of the Indian team at the historic FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup hails from the remote village of Gorratoli in the Gumla district of Jharkhand. The third child of her parents Heeralal Oraon and Tara Devi, she has four sisters and a brother. She dreamt of being a footballer since her childhood, and thus continued her journey to achieve her dream. She became the first person from her village to be selected at a state-run residential football academy in Hazaribagh. From there, Astam Oraon became part of the Under-17 national team as she played South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) games at Jamshedpur and then abroad in Malaysia.
