New Delhi: Former India captain Kapil Dev feels that there is no reason to remove Ravi Shastri from the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team if he is producing good results. Shastri’s contract is set to expire after the T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October-November. His continuation in this post also depends on whether he wants to apply again or not. There is speculation that the BCCI may appoint the current head of the National Cricket Academy, Rahul Dravid, as the head coach, who is currently touring Sri Lanka with the team for the limited overs series. Kapil said in a conversation, I don’t think there is a need to talk about it now. Let’s see how the performance is in Sri Lanka.
“There is no harm in getting a new coach, but if Ravi Shastri is doing well then there is no reason to remove him. This creates unnecessary pressure on the coaches and players.
India won the Test series twice in Australia under Shastri’s coaching. The team reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Cup and the final of the World Test Championship where it was defeated by New Zealand. The Indian team, led by Virat Kohli, will play a five-Test series in England, while the team will play a limited overs series in Sri Lanka under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan.
