Date:

BENGALURU – Cricket fever has officially gripped the nation as the BCCI released the first phase of the TATA IPL 2026 schedule late last night. In a massive opening clash, the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28.

The announcement comes at a perfect time for fans looking for a distraction from the ongoing global energy crisis. However, the schedule has a unique twist this year it has only been released for the first 20 days due to upcoming state assembly elections in several parts of the country.

A Phase-Wise Rollout

According to The Indian Express, the BCCI is playing it safe by releasing fixtures in phases. This allows the board to coordinate with local police and election commissions in states like West Bengal and Assam.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed:

“We are prioritizing student exams and election dates. The full schedule will be out once the poll dates are finalized, but we wanted to give the fans something to look forward to.”

The first phase, running from March 28 to April 12, will feature 20 high-octane matches across 10 venues, including Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.

The Major Highlights

The “El Clásico” of India: Mumbai Indians (MI) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede on March 29.

Double Headers: The first double-header of the season is set for April 4, featuring Delhi Capitals vs. Mumbai Indians in the afternoon and Gujarat Titans vs. Rajasthan Royals at night.

Venue Mystery: Interestingly, matches in Bengaluru are currently “subject to clearance” from a special government committee on March 13 (today) to ensure stadium preparedness.

Why Everyone is Talking About It

Beyond the matches, social media is buzzing over the massive player trades that took place during the off-season. Ravindra Jadeja, who recently joined Rajasthan Royals (RR), will face his former team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), on March 30 in Guwahati.

Fans on X (formerly Twitter) are already trending #IPL2026 and #RCB, with many joking that the “LPG shortage” doesn’t matter as long as the floodlights are on.
