Pune: After winning the T20 series, India has retained the winning record in ODIs as well. India beat England by 66 runs in the first ODI. In response to 318, the entire England team could score only 251 runs. With this win, the Indian team has gone one-0 in the series.
With the help of Shikhar Dhawan’s 98 runs and Krunal’s aggressive half-century, India scored 317 for five wickets. Krunal scored an unbeaten 58 off 31 balls, which is the fastest half-century of an Indian batsman on his debut in international cricket. In reply, England started very well but after the first wicket fell, the team could not recover and was dismissed for 251 runs in 42.1 overs.
Krishna took four wickets for 54 runs, which is the best performance by an Indian bowler on his debut in international cricket. England’s score was 135 runs without any loss in the 15th over but Krishna and Shardul Thakur changed the picture of the match. Thakur took three wickets for 37 runs. For England, Johnny Bairstow made 94 off 55 balls and Jason Roy made a good start by adding 46 runs in 35 balls.
Krishna conceded 37 runs in the first three overs, but later made a great comeback, breaking the back of England’s innings. Earlier, Dhawan and Virat Kohli shared a 105-run partnership for the second wicket for India. After this, Krunal and KL Rahul added 112 runs in 57 balls with an unbeaten partnership. Kohli scored 56 off 60 balls while Rahul scored an unbeaten 62 off 43 balls. Krunal remained unbeaten after scoring 58 runs in 31 balls. Dhawan hit 11 fours and two sixes in his 106-ball innings while Krunal hit seven fours and two sixes. Rahul, who struggled to find the rhythm in the T20 series, also played openly.
On being sent to bat first, Rohit Sharma (28 off 42 balls) and Dhawan added 64 runs for the first wicket. Kohli and Dhawan edged Moin Ali in the 29th over, scoring 15 runs. Kohli completed his 61st ODI fifty in 50 balls. He returned with a catch from Mark Wood in the deep. At the same time, Dhawan was caught by Stokes at midwicket at the hands of Eoin Morgan. Hardik Pandya (one) also became a victim of Stokes.
In the last over, Krunal and Rahul batted aggressively to take India beyond 300. During the match, Sam Billings succumbed to his shoulder in an attempt to save a four.
